The Kootenay-Boundary Environmental Education Initiative (KBEE) is an initiative of theΒ Kootenay-Boundary Chapter of the British Columbia School Superintendents Association (BCSSA). It includesΒ School Districts 5, 6, 8, 10, 20 and 51. This group is made up of theΒ Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Directors of Instruction and other senior management staff of these school districts.
The vision of the KBEE is toΒ support studentsβ understanding of their local environment, andΒ empowerment of thoughtful action, through outdoor, experiential, place-based and place-conscious learning. This vision was developed at CBEEN’s 2016 Environmental Education Leadership Clinic.
The KBEE committee has been working on a number of initiatives, including the Take Me Outside for Learning events, Place-based Inspiration Handbook, and Place-based Learning Exemplar videos. For more information go to: www.kbee.ca.
