2015_EE Awards of Excellence_Ally Candy (640x437) (640x437)

Ally Candy is one of the recipients of CBEEN’s Environmental Education Awards for 2015.  Raised on the West coast and in the West Kootenays, Ally has explored Canada’s biodiversity through her many outdoor pursuits.  It was natural for her to study Geography and Environmental Studies at UVic (while living on a boat), financed by seven seasons of ecological field research.  A love of connecting people and natural places led her to take a teaching degree from UBC.

For almost three decades she has lived in the East Kootenays,  doing  environmental education through initiatives engaging schools, communities, business and all levels of government. She is proud  of the family business Adventure Canada and her partnership in  consulting company Osprey Communications that have brought so many people in contact with this country’s wealth of natural and cultural history.

This latest decade Ally has been involved in building Groundswell Network Society, a grassroots group active in sustainability research and education.  Through their 3000 square foot Community Greenhouse and 12,000 square foot Permaculture Garden, she promotes ecological literacy for all ages.  She is passionate about facilitating healthy decision-making for individuals and institutions through applied learning opportunities on energy, food, water, waste, ecology, community and enterprise.
