|Location||Argenta, North Kootenay Lake|
|Contact This Presenterfirstname.lastname@example.org|
This program is only available in the North Kootenay Lake area.
About the Program
This is a full-day field trip to two homesteads in Argenta, where students are introduced to the concept of self-sufficiency, as well an overview of small-scale food production, preservation and storage (depending on the time of year). They will have a hands-on experience with dairy goats, chickens and ducks, and planting or harvesting vegetables in the garden. They will also be introduced to an off-grid homestead with solar panels and a micro-hydro power system.
Students will be engaged in a few simple homesteading tasks such as cheese-making, planting seeds, harvesting, fermentation, etc. They will have a chance to taste and sample the “fruits of their labour”.
Program can be adapted to curriculum needs and age levels.
